LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and health officials updated the community on the City’s efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus at a briefing on Tuesday.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) announced that 24 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Lancaster County today, bringing the community total to 3,361. The number of deaths in the community has increased to 19.

One was a male in his 70′s, the other was a woman in her 80′s. Both had been hospitalized.

The Mayor did comment on the County Attorney filing an opinion to remove Interim Heath Director Pat Lopez from office.

“I saw that letter and it was disappointing,” Said Mayor Gaylor Baird. “Pat Lopez’s authority has not been challenged until this mask mandate went into effect. The numbers speak for themselves, I think it’s just further confirmation of her authority and expertise about what keeps our community safe. She has my full confidence.”
