‘Eat A to Z Lincoln’ promotes local dining
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - As Directed Health Measures continue to change in Lancaster County on constant remains, carry out, and delivery options.
One Lincoln woman is using her technological savvy to make all the options accessible in one place.
What started as a spreadsheet that Elizabeth Herrick made with over 200 local restaurants has now been made into a full-blown website.
This, after Herrick, says she saw the need to bring it to a bigger platform.
Eat A to Z Lincoln started as a challenge that Herrick created for herself.
Making a list of as many restaurants as she could so people could eat their way through Lincoln.
“Turn into a collection for me originally,” said Herrick. “Then people were commenting about how they would love it, so I just shared it. It turned into a bigger project than I initially anticipated but that’s alright.”
Herrick says it’s just something she made herself in her free time, free of charge.
To try to help out local businesses during the pandemic.
“Those small businesses are who you go to when you want donations for a fundraiser or an event that you’ve got going on,” said Herrick. “It’s just time to help return the favor and keep them in business.”
On that list is Stauffer’s Cafe and Pie Shoppe.
Every year for Thanksgiving it sells upwards of 1,000 pies and this year is no different.
With COVID-19 precautions in place, it says it’s thankful the local support is continuing.
“The bigger chains you’re paying the big man,” said Sydney Stauffer the front of house manager. “Here you’re helping kids pay for their pallet classes and for us to be together as a family.”
Across town and also on the list is Toast.
It says its dine-in crowds fluctuate but the carry-out crowd is helping them tremendously.
“It’s hit and miss each week I feel like people depending on the risk dial make the decision if they want to go out or not,” said Jessie Porter the general manager. “We’re really relying on the people to continue to support businesses the best that they can.”
