Markowski breaks Lincoln Pius X scoring record, leads Thunderbolts to HAC Championship

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Husker signee Alexis Marwkoski scored 44 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Lincoln Pius X to the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament championship on Saturday. Markowski, who faced double and triple teams throughout the game, broke the Thunderbolts’ 31-year-old single-game school scoring record. The All-State senior had 22 points at halftime.

Markowski led a comeback effort from the Thunderbolts, who trailed by 8 points in the fourth quarter. Fremont led 65-58 with 6 minutes left at Johnson Gym in Lincoln, but a 3-pointer by Miriam Miller sparked a 14-0 run by Pius. The Thunderbolts closed the game by scoring 21 of the final 23 points.

The Tigers were led by Macy Bryant’s 20 points. Iowa recruit Taylor McCabe added 19 points for Fremont.

Miller finished with 23 points for the Thunderbolts.
