LPD investigating burglaries at multiple jewelry stores
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Investigators with the Lincoln Police Department are looking into two separate burglaries at jewelry stores and are trying to learn if these incidents are linked.
On Monday around 2:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to Akala Jewelry, on S 33rd Streets and Pioneers Boulevard, for a burglary.
Responding officers spoke with the owner who said that a suspect, or suspects, smashed the front window and got inside the store.
Officers processed the scene for digital and forensic evidence. LPD said currently the damage is $300 and the loss is still under investigation.
Roughly an hour later, around 3:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to Lin Jewelers, on S Cotner Boulevard near S 50th Street, for a burglary.
LPD said responding officers spoke with the owner who explained he’d been sleeping in his office when a suspect smashed the front windows of the business and then started smashing display cases to get at the merchandise.
According to police, the suspect stolen approximately $2,000 worth of jewelry and caused $2,500 worth of damage.
Officers processed the scene for digital and forensic evidence.
LPD said given the method and proximity of time, investigators are trying to figure out if these burglaries are linked.
