LPD: Driver had stolen 9mm handgun in jacket pocket
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - During a traffic stop, officers with the Lincoln Police Department found a stolen firearm out of Alabama in the driver’s jacket.
On Wednesday of last week, January 9th, officers stopped a car along 11th Street and Belmont Avenue for obstructed license plates.
LPD said officers made contact with the driver, identified as 20-year-old Julian Coleman, who officers said was unable to give any paperwork for the car.
From there, officers said everyone in the car got out and ran away. Officers chased after Coleman and were able to arrest him a block away.
LPD said while searching Coleman, they found a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun in his jacket pocket that officers discovered was stolen out of Alabama.
According to police, while officers were searching the car they found several open bottles and partially drank cognac.
LPD said Coleman was found to have a suspended driver’s license and officers said he also showed signs of alcohol impairment.
Coleman is facing possession of a stolen firearm charges, carrying concealed weapon charges, DUI minor charges, minor in possession and open alcohol container in vehicle charges.
