Former Papillion South coach facing felony sex abuse charge
PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - A Papillion South High School coach who resigned in early February for “personal reasons” is now facing a felony charge of sexual abuse of a student.
An arrest warrant was issued by the Sarpy County Court for Stephen A. Gentry, 29, on Wednesday. He faces a charge of third-degree sexual abuse by a school employee, a Class 4 felony, relating to a report made Jan. 19.
The case represents the first time the new Nebraska statute on inappropriate relationships between school employees and students has been applied.
At the time of his departure, a spokesperson for the Papillion-La Vista School District said a note went out to students and athletes about the coach’s departure.
