LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Investigators with Lincoln Fire and Rescue believe a cigarette caused a fire at the Chateau Meadows apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Crews were dispatched to the scene, near 60th and Vine Streets, just after 5 a.m. Tuesday.

LFR said it appears the fire started on a balcony of a second floor apartment and then spread into the apartment building.

Firefighters said it caused heavy fire damage to that unit and there is smoke, as well as water damage to rest of building.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a cigarette.

LFR said all of the units were evacuated and there were no injuries, however, people living in the eight apartment units affected have been displaced.

Fire investigators say the damage is roughly $100,000.
