Columbus wins weather-delayed game, advances to State Tournament for first time in 68 years
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Tadan Bell made a sliding, game-ending catch and a wild celebration began at Den Hartog Field. Bell’s heroics secured Columbus’ first NSAA State Baseball Tournament appearance since 1953.
“Once I realized I had it in my glove, I was pretty surprised,” Bell said.
The catch ended a 10th-inning threat by Lincoln East, which brought the tying run to the plate. Columbus held on for the 7-4 victory after a nerve-racking 48 hours.
The District A-3 Final started on Saturday, but was delayed due to weather. Discoverers players say it made the victory even sweeter.
