LPD: Man threatens to kill neighbors over dogs being loud
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A man is facing assault and terroristic threat charges following an argument with his neighbors about their dogs.
Just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, officers with the Lincoln Police Department were dispatched to a Trenridge Gardens apartment off Vine Street and Trenridge Road regarding an assault that had just occurred.
LPD said officers spoke with a 23-year-old man who reported that he and his 23-year-old girlfriend had left their apartment to do laundry and heard another tenant, 36-year-old Calvin Smith, yell at them about their dogs being loud.
According to police, the 23-year-old man approached Smith in a stairwell of the apartment complex and said Smith displayed a knife.
LPD said there was an altercation that turned physical as the 23-year-old man tried getting away from Smith.
Officers said the victim was put into a chokehold and Smith displayed the knife again threatening to kill the man and his girlfriend.
Police said the victim was able to get away from Smith who continued threatening to kill him.
Smith was arrested and is facing terroristic threats charges, 3rd degree assault and disturbing the peace charges.
The victim had injuries consistent with the reported assault which did not require medical treatment.
