Hot and muggy this weekend
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Most locations in the area had a high temperature at or above 90° Friday. Those well above average temperatures will continue this weekend. Dew points will be on the rise as well so it should feel muggy by Sunday. Rain is going to be possible for part of the weekend with more chances in the forecast for next week.
An upper level ridge will remain in control through the first half of the weekend. Saturday will be hot with highs in the low to mid 90s for most locations. Dew points will likely rise into the upper 50s to low 60s so it may begin to feel a bit muggy. It is going to be breezy with south winds at 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 35 mph. Rain is not expected for the first half of the weekend.
As a surface trough / weak cold front moves into Western Nebraska and an upper level low moves closer to Eastern Nebraska and Northeast Kansas, clouds will be on the increase for Sunday. This will lead to slightly cooler temperatures with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. It should be breezy again with south winds at 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 35 mph. Dew points look to be in the low to mid 60s so it will feel muggy. There is a 10 to 20% chance of rain in Eastern Nebraska and Northeast Kansas late Sunday. The rain chance is 20 to 30% in the western half of Nebraska.
Occasional disturbances and maybe another upper level low or two look to move through the area next week. There will be a chance of rain each day Monday through Friday. Some days may have a better chance than others and no day looks to be a complete washout at this time. It should remain very warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.
