Man in custody following weapons violation at Northwest Lincoln apartment complex
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police said a 31-year-old man is in Emergency Protective Custody for a mental health evaluation after he violated a protection order at a Lincoln apartment complex.
Lincoln police said they were called to the Fairways at Lincoln apartments in the 500 block of Fletcher Avenue on Monday just before 8 p.m. by a 24-year-old woman who said her husband, the man who police have not identified, was at her home illegally. Officers confirmed the woman had a protection order against the man.
As officers were responding to the area they learned the 31-year-old had a gun. As they arrived, he was seen walking out of the patio carrying a handgun. Officers negotiated with him for more than an hour outside the building before the man ran on foot.
He was chased to the area of I-180 and I-80 and arrested without further incident. He had a loaded .9mm handgun in his possession and he is a convicted felon.
Police said several charges are pending. His name and those charges will be made public once the mental health evaluation is complete.
