Hot and Humid for Thursday afternoon, severe t’storms Thursday night

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Thursday could be the hottest day of 2021 so far for the Lincoln area. A cold front will begin to move across Nebraska tonight and Friday bringing cooler temperatures and less muggy conditions. Severe weather will be possible Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Mostly sunny skies, hot and humid this afternoon with a south-southeast wind 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph possible. Highs will be in the upper 90s with the feel like temperature or heat index around 102 late this afternoon.

As the cold front moves through Nebraska tonight and Friday, showers and thunderstorms will develop and some of the storms could be severe, especially north of Interstate 80. For Lincoln, a marginal threat for severe weather late Thursday night and on Friday. That means isolated severe t’storms possible with strong winds the primary threat.

Saturday will be warm and mainly sunny. The heat and humidity will return on Sunday and continue into next week.
