Drivers can get gas & support Lancaster Event Center this weekend
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - This weekend drivers can help the Lancaster County Event Center Fairgrounds simply by filling their gas tank.
Friday through Sunday June 13 U-Stop Convenience Store will be kicking back two cents of every gallon of gas sold at their Lincoln locations.
The Fairgrounds will be celebrating 20-years of operation in 2021, with roughly 2/3 of its 300 events serving youth.
Pre-pandemic, the fairgrounds were on pace to have a $60-million economic impact. Unfortunately events weren’t hosted during the pandemic, but the Fairgrounds were still home to the Lincoln Food Bank, Test Nebraska and mass vaccinations.
Serving the community is nothing new and Lancaster Event Center staff said they look forward to people returning to the Fairgrounds.
“We’re really the largest community center in town and we’re also just a huge emergency facility that a lot of different departments count on. That’s why it’s so critical to have the public support as a non-profit, to be able to do all those things and continue pivoting and coming out stronger than ever out of the pandemic, to be here for decades to come,” said director of Lancaster Event Center Fairgrounds, Amy Dickerson.
Dickerson said the high school finals rodeo will bring in the revenue of half a football season and the support from Lincoln is what makes events like those happen, “I can’t tell you how much that would mean to the team here, to see that kind of support, and have the resources to have a great experience. Plug roof leaks, have those fans bought and get our emergency training up to speed just as quickly as possible. That support makes all the difference.”
Event staff say the money from the pump will be spent on the facility, where maintenance is needed for upcoming events.
