Dozens of Lincoln restaurants donating 10% of sales Wednesday to fight hunger

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - LINCOLN, Neb.— Local restaurants are participating in Dine Out to Help Out on Wednesday by donating at least 10% of the day’s sales to the Food Bank of Lincoln. This year, 50 establishments and 117 locations across Lincoln are participating in the event.

September is Hunger Action Month, where food banks nationwide are taking action to conquer hunger in communities. The Food Bank of Lincoln services 16 counties in Southeast Nebraska, where an estimated 48,100 citizens are facing hunger, with 13,040 of them being children, according to Feeding America. In its 34-year history, Dine Out to Help Out has helped the Food Bank connect more than two million meals to community members.

“The restaurant and food service industry professionals in our service area consistently come together to support one another and the community. This special group of people know firsthand the power of food,” said Michaella Kumke, Food Bank of Lincoln President & CEO. “We’re honored to celebrate our 35th Dine Out to Help Out event with a record number of participants, and we hope the community will answer the call and patronize the participating businesses on Sept. 13. Together, we will benefit our neighbors who may not have the same dining opportunities or access to food.”
