OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A teen was killed and a man was injured in a shooting in North Omaha Tuesday morning.

Omaha Police officers responded to the scene of a shooting near 52nd and Pinkney around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

OPD told First Alert 6 that the two victims, a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man, were taken to Nebraska Medicine. OPD said the 15-year-old died in the hospital.

OPD also says they’re looking for the gunman who got away, and what lead to the shooting.

One neighbor told First Alert 6 it was shocking to him that it happened in broad daylight.

“Really, it’s fairly quiet. I’ve never had any shootings like this around here, or heard anything like that around here. It’s mostly been a few blocks over west,” resident Jim Myshock said.

Omaha Public Schools told First Alert 6 that three schools, Benson High, Monroe Middle School, and Fontenelle Elementary School, were placed under “secure” around the time of the shooting.

OPS says “secure” means all exterior doors are locked, and no one is allowed in or out of the building as classes continue as normal.

The “secure” status was lifted after about 40 minutes.
