Frequently-Asked Questions

What is the Can Care-a-Van?
The 10/11 Can Care-a-Van is an annual food drive which takes place in communities across Nebraska. It began in 1988, when Nebraska Food Pantry Network Coordinator Joanne Komenda and former KOLN/KGIN General Manager Frank Jonas worked together for Farm Aid. The partnership worked so well, it became an annual event. Since then, the Can Care-a-Van has collected over 4,000,000 lbs. of food for families in need.

How can I help?
The Can Care-a-Van collects canned food, non-perishables, and monetary donations. Click on the “Participating County Donation Locations” link to find the collection site nearest you. Dates, times, and most-needed items are also listed there.

How can my company/church/school/club help?
We love group participation! Nothing is better for team-building than volunteering to help neighbors in need. Start a penny war, organize a fundraiser, or offer to pick up donations for elderly donors. Get creative! Then drop off your donation at one of the Can Care-a-Van collection sites.

Where does my donation go?
All of the food collected in your community STAYS in your community. Click the “Participating County Donation Locations” link to find a list of the participating pantries.
