5, 6, 10 p.m. Weeknights
Jennifer Ortega anchors the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscast weeknights on 10/11.
Jennifer Ortega has been in Nebraska since 2018, anchoring weekend evening newscasts and reporting for our sister station WOWT in Omaha.
During her time here, Jennifer was in the field covering the March 2019 bomb cyclone that triggered record flooding in the state. She was reporting live when her camera caught water starting to spew over Dodge Street blocking thousands from heading home during rush hour. Since then, she's told dozens of stories about families struggling to recover from the devastating floodwaters.
During the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic, Jennifer was on the front lines at Eppley Airfield when the first travelers quarantined from the Diamond Princess cruise ship landed in Omaha.
Jennifer came to the Midwest form Orlando, Florida where she made national coverage on stories including the murder of singer songwriter Christina Grimmie, the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, Hurricane Irma and a two-year-old boy from Elkhorn who was drowned by an alligator at Disney Parks.
Storytelling and performing in front of an audience came natural to Jennifer at a young age. She says her parents enrolled her in acting camp at 8-years-old and performed in dozens of musical theater plays until she graduated college from Florida Atlantic University. She says her love for people and community developed her knack for storytelling.
Jennifer spent nearly four years reporting in the Deep South in Columbus and Jackson Mississippi where she was recognized by the Jackson City Council with the Outstanding Journalist Award.
Jennifer is bilingual, fluent in Spanish and English. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in South Florida. Her hobbies include riding her bike, spending time with her husband and taking her three West Highland Terriers to the park.
People remember Jennifer by her infectious laugh..."something I'm not proud of," but says it's always a good ice breaker! Jennifer enjoys meeting people in the community, so don't hesitate to send her a Facebook message.
