Sponsored - After a few years away, we're happy to announce the return of the 10/11 Golden Apple Award.

This time around, we've teamed up with Doane University College of Education to honor an outstanding educator on the last Wednesday of each month.

The recipient of this month's award is Brady Rohlfs. He's the band director at Waverly High School and he was thrilled to win a Golden Apple Award.

"This is my family beyond my own family and I love working with these kids everyday," Rohlfs said. "So I don't know that an award is necessary, but it is much appreciated."

It's obvious that Mr. Rohlfs is a very popular teacher at Waverly High School. One of his students even described him as a father figure.

"Mr. Rohlfs is like a third parent to me," said Bentley Tonniges said. "He's always been there for me since 5th grade, we've known him since then."

Senior Mia Hartley is also a big fan of her band director.

"It's kinda like Bentley said, I picture him as my school dad," Hartley said. "I come to him with problems that aren't necessarily band related, just everyday life. He's a great listener and he always gives the best advice."

The students are priority one for Mr. Rohlfs.

"I like to see them progress just not as musicians, but as human beings and knowing that they're going to be successful when they leave here someday and that they care about me just as much as I care about them," Rohlfs said.
