LINCOLN, Neb. - Lincoln Fire and Rescue said it was forced to start immediate medical treatment on a female victim inside a burned apartment unit. The female was transported to the hospital, but life-saving measures were unsuccessful.
The initial call came in around 7:00 p.m. Thursday night.
According to Lincoln Police, officers were called to Stadium View Apartments, located at 1341 N 9th Street, on a welfare check after a concerned relative of the victim called authorities. When they approached the apartment, they were unable to get inside.
"Two officers came out to check on her," Sgt. Tyler Cooper said. "When we arrived, we saw soot on the door and it was hot. We could smell smoke so we alerted the Lincoln Fire Department."
Lincoln Fire and Rescue extricated the victim, who was immediately taken to the hospital, where the 66-year-old woman died.
The building was initially evacuated, but the fire was contained to the second floor unit.
