A "NU" era for Husker Women's Basketball
A new era started for the Nebraska women's basketball team Sunday afternoon.
Nebraska Women's Basketball Coach Amy Williams started off the new season with a 73-71 exhibition victory over Southwest Baptist. Hundreds of fans packed Pinnacle Bank Arena to show their support to the former Husker player turned coach.
While some fans said they're saddened by the departure of their former coach, many are excited for this new start for the program.
A fan since the 80's, Ann Hamling is confident in Coach Williiams ability to coach this new Nebraska team. "I think it'll be a good thing, I think she'll do well. It looks like she's got a really good staff behind her," said Hamling.
Another season ticket holder and die hard Nebraska women's basketball fan, Abbi Swatsworth said she will always love Nebraska and she thinks Coach Williams will be successful even though the upcoming schedule is a tough one. "I think it's going to be a tough year, a learning year, we have a lot of young players but all they can do is keep improving," said Swatsworth.
After the game Williams took time to talk to the fans and introduce her family, coaching staff and their families.
Williams said, "It's good to be back representing you as a fan base, the state and the university."
Williams played for the Huskers from 1995-98, where she was a four year letter winner. She was named head coach on April 11.
