SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) Local YMCA is close to meeting their fundraising goal. They expect ten percent of their 2019 budget to come from the "Annual Support Campaign for Families and Youth."
To help scholarship-families access programs at the "Y", 172 campaigners in the community are making calls for donations.
Lola Gonzales told us about what the campaigners are doing. “Being out in the community. Asking for donations for scholarship families to use the facilities. Not only using the facility, also programs for the kids: the biddy ball, the basketball, the volleyball. Just, all programs... And, your senior programs.”
Gonzales is the Community Enrichment Director at the YMCA on Beltline Hwy. She’s been running the Annual Support Campaign for about thirty years.
As of today, campaigners have collected $117,000 out of a total $190,000. They have until the end of December to finish turning in their packets.
Today was a victory celebration for Gonzales, who is certain that the campaign’s goal will be met. This will also be Gonzales’ last year running the campaign. She is retiring after a long career at the “Y”, she said she’s not done being involved, however.
“I'm always gonna be involved with the YMCA. It’s part of my life. I've worked here for 43 years, this year January. So, the 'Y' is my second home. So, I'll always be part of the "Y"
Gonzales was interviewed in front of the “Giving Tree” which still has some tags, if you would like to donate.
