BEATRICE, Neb. (KOLN) -- The Gage County Sheriff has identified the Beatrice teenager killed in a crash just south of Beatrice Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Shawn Vraspir, 18, was killed in the crash. Sadie Saunders, 47, of Topeka sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Vraspir graduated from Beatrice High School on Sunday, a school official confirmed.

Investigators have determined Vraspir’s Ford Escape was headed west on W. Lilac Road when he ran a stop sign at Highway 77. Saunders’s northbound Ford F150 hit the Ford Escape.

Vraspir’s SUV then hit a house before coming to a rest. Saunders’s vehicle came to a rest in the west ditch of Highway 77.

Vraspir was pronounced dead at the scene. Saunders was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital.

Restraints were in use and both passenger and driver side airbags deployed in both vehicles.

It has yet to be determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. The accident is still under investigation.

A crisis team was brought in on Thursday to help students and teachers cope with the loss, a Beatrice Public School official said.
