A timber railroad bridge was damaged and a Union Pacific train derailed near 1st Street in Nebraska City around 6:10 p.m. Wednesday.
There is no official word on what caused the derailment. There are some witness reports that the timber bridge collapsed, sending two rail cars into South Table Creek.
Over seven train cars, hauling corn, were involved in the derailment. One car is on top of portions of the bridge in the ravine.
There have been no reports of injuries. Twenty five Nebraska City firefighters responded. They checked to see if a natural gas line in the area was damaged and provided traffic control.
