Kearney day care subject to unannounced inspections

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Authorities have dropped an abuse and neglect case that had been filed against a Kearney day care owner.

According to court records, Meredith Spencer was charged after someone called police July 13th and reported seeing children under her care walking unsupervised along a busy street.

Spencer's case was dropped after an investigation failed to turn up criminal evidence.

KSNB Local 4 has learned that since the incident. Spencer's day care has been operating under an interim license. The state has also been making monthly unannounced inspection visits.

A spokesperson said the state may change the terms of Spencer's license after they have verified that the criminal charges were dropped
