Fire in parking garage causes extensive damage to multiple vehicles

A University of Nebraska Fire Inspector said a fire that caused extensive damage to multiple vehicles in a parking garage Tuesday morning was caused by a fire in a 1991 Grand Prix.

The vehicle was parked in the garage near 14th and Salt Creek Roadway when a fire broke out in the engine compartment shortly before 8 a.m.

The fire spread, and caused extensive damage to three vehicles and damaged an additional 30 vehicles.

UNL Inspector Richard Firebaugh said structural engineers are being brought in to ensure the parking garage is safe following the fire.
