LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -- The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office has identified Richard Gardner, 87, of Seward as the man killed in a crash at Highway 34 and Northwest 48th Street on Monday afternoon.

Gardner was driving a 2005 BMW 745LI northbound on Northwest 48th Street. Investigators said Gardner ran a red light and crashed into a 2018 International Harvester straight truck in the intersection of Highway 34.

The crash sent Gardner's BMW into a ditch northwest of the intersection. The straight truck ended up in the westbound lanes of Highway 34, then went onto the north shoulder of the road.

The driver of the straight truck was identified as Dale Nobbman, 69, of Pleasant Dale. His passenger was Dayton Stejskal, 50, of Lincoln. Neither men were hurt in the crash.

Resuscitation efforts on Gardner were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office said Gardner was wearing his seat-belt and the front and side airbags in the BMW deployed.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
