Crime Stoppers: LPD releases surivellance and dash cam video from crime spree
Police have released dash camera video from a brief pursuit in northeast Lincoln on May 19. Investigators are working to find the men inside the car, who they believe carjacked a man at gun and knife-point.
The crime spree began between 11:00 and 11:30 PM on May 19 with an armed robbery at Bethany Park. Police said two suspects got into a man's car and threatened to shoot the victim if he didn't get out.
"This a really significant case. First of all, starting out with a robbery. The victim is sitting at a park, just waiting to pick up a friend in his vehicle, when he's approached by these two suspects who not only display a gun, but a switchblade as well. So those are, of course, two deadly weapons," said Lincoln Police Officer Chassidy Jackson-Goodwin.
After the suspects left Bethany Park in the stolen car, police said they drove to the U-Stop at northwest 1st Street and west Fletcher Avenue in northwest Lincoln. Police said one of the suspects went into the convenience store and stole a bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos and iced tea.
After leaving U-Stop, police said the suspects drove to Roc's Speedee Mart at 56th and Holdrege.
"He again grabbed several more bags of Flaming Hot Cheetos, ice cream, some other snacks, and then he walked out of the store without paying for those items as well," said Officer Jackson-Goodwin.
The getaway from Roc's wasn't as smooth. Not only does the suspect drop several of the stolen goods, but the car door was locked. Surveillance video shows the suspect dove head-first into the car, before the car sped off.
As the crime spree continued, the suspects traveled to LionsGate Apartments, just east of 48th and Vine. Police said the suspects backed into a car in the parking lot then drove off.
From LionsGate, the suspects drove down Vine Street, where they were spotted by an officer near 33rd Street.
Dash camera video shows the suspects hit a street sign, then took police on a short pursuit on the wrong side of the road.
The pursuit was called off, but police ultimately found the stolen car. They are now working to identify the two suspects.
