Employee scammed by person claiming to be company's owner

LINCOLN, Neb. – Lincoln Police said a company is out thousands of dollars after an employee was scammed by a person pretending to be the company’s owner.

LPD said on January 7, an employee at a consulting firm reported she received an email from the owner, requesting she purchase gift cards for company employees.

The woman told police she went to the store and bought $2,400 in gift cards using a company card, and sent the numbers to the scammer.

The owner of the company was contacted and told police an employee in Omaha had also fallen for the scam.
