LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) A former Nebraska State Patrol investigator says he wants to warn other Nebraskans after a scammer asked him for thousands of dollars.
David Nicholson was in Florida when he received a phone call. The person on the other end of the line told him he had an error on his 2015 tax return.
“I said oh my gosh, I tell you what I’ll do, why don’t you fax me the information I will write a check and I will beat feet down too the Internal Revenue Service here in Lincoln. Click. She hung up,” Nicholson said.
Nicholson said it’s not the first time a scammer has contacted him.
He now wants to warn other older adults about the scam.
He said if you do get a call like this, try to get the phone number and report it.
