LINCOLN, Neb. - Less than 36 hours after 47 year old Desmond Fowler was shot and killed near 27th and Holdredge, his friends and family returned to that intersection to pay their respects to their friend.
About 30 people gathered to light candles and release balloons in Fowler's memory.
Many at the vigil called Fowler's murder "senseless."
"I think the man who killed him should get the death penalty," said Mozell Richardson. "It's because of him my brother is gone, and he needs to get what's coming to him."
One of Fowler's friends says he had just seen him a few days ago. He's still in shock he's gone.
"The last thing I said to him was, I hope I can make it back out this way so we can have a beer or something. and that's the last time I seen him," said Devon Whitlow. "We'd been friends for 40 years and I just can't believe that's the last time I saw him."
LPD, along with help from the US Marshals Metro Fugitive Task Force arrested 22-year-old Michael Dewey. He is facing possible charges of 1st Degree Murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Friends and family say they plan to be at all of Dewey's court appearances to make sure their friend gets justice.
