Police identify those involved in attempted murder-suicide

Grand Island Police have identified those involved in an attempted murder-suicide.

The deceased suspect in the shooting incident is 43-year-old Milton A. Alvarado of Grand Island.

The victim in this case is 42-year-old Silvia Garcia Mares also of Grand Island.

Police said she is recovering well.

Grand Island Police said one person died in an apparent attempted murder-suicide Thursday morning at Continental Gardens Apartments.

Police responded to a fatal shooting incident at 8:43 a.m. at 3111 W. College Street. Physical evidence and victim statements indicate that this incident was an attempted homicide/suicide. The suspect in this incident, a 43-year-old Grand Island male, is deceased.

The victim, a 42-year-old Grand Island female, was involved in an intimate relationship with the suspect. She is doing well and in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the head and base of the neck. There are no additional suspects at large or continued dangers to the community.

Grand Island police are not releasing names of the victim or the suspect until families are notified.
