Garbage truck takes down LES power line in hit-and-run crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -- Lincoln Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash after a garbage truck took down a power line in north Lincoln.

According to the accident report, a witness reported hearing a loud bang outside his home on Theresa Street, just east of 27th Street, around 4:30 AM on Monday.

The witness looked out his window and saw a garbage truck stopped in the middle of Theresa Street with power lines sparking on top of the truck. The witness said he did not see the actual collision but watched the garbage truck drive away.

According to police, LES was contacted and unsure of the approximate height of the wires. Damage to the power lines is estimated around $1,000.

Any potential citations against the garbage truck driver are pending.
