Give Warmth X 1,000 at Gathering Place

Motivated by this winter's unseasonably harsh weather, Community Action launched a campaign this week. The new drive aims to distribute warming kits to people in need in the Capital City.

Lisa Janssen is the Gathering Place program administrator, "The Gathering Place is a soup kitchen welcoming anyone in the community that has a need to join us for a meal Monday through Friday. What's great about the Gathering Place is people are able to come here for an hour or so and get warm and get the nutrition they need. But what we also need is to make sure that when they leave here that they have the supplies needed to stay warm."

Heather Loughman is the Communications and Development Director for Community Action, "We have been seeing that a lot of our guests at the Gathering Place don't have proper mittens, proper hats, proper warm socks, so we are partnering with QP Ace Hardware to raise funds to provide warming kits for Gathering Place guests and other participants of Community Action as well. Ten dollars provides a warming kit so it includes nice gloves, a nice hat and then thermal socks as well, which are very needed."

Heather says the goal of the "Give Warmth X 1,000" campaign is to raise $10,000 by March 15th to provide warming kits to 1,000 people.
