The Otoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating what caused a 24-year-old driver to cross the center line in a deadly crash Monday morning.

The crash happened at 8:25am on Highway 50 south of Syracuse. Investigators say a northbound Peterbilt semi-truck and a southbound Honda Civic collided.

An investigation showed the driver of the Honda Civic, 24-year-old Ryan Delacruz of Tecumseh, crossed the center line and collided head on with the semi-truck.

The sheriff's office said Delacruz died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi 33-year-old Derek Koenig of Beatrice sustained minor injuries.

Syracuse Fire and Rescue along with the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene of the crash. Investigators say Delacruz was not wearing a seat belt.
