LINCOLN, Neb. – Lincoln Fire and Rescue briefly closed the intersection of 27th and Van Dorn after a homemade explosive device was found on the side of the road.

LFR Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said the device was found around 2 p.m. on Thursday by a law care worker who was picking up trash along the side of the road prior to mowing.

Gegg described the device as roughly the size of a hand, with a fuse coming out, and large enough to cause an injury.

LFR brought in a robotic device to safely remove the device, and it has been taken to a safe location for disposal, Gegg said.
