LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -- Lincoln Public Schools celebrated Veterans Day, Friday. Each school did something different to honor veterans and remember the fallen. Activities included assemblies, performances, guest speakers and special announcements.

Specialist Lauren Taylor with the Nebraska Army National Guard spoke at Goodrich Middle School.

"It's special to me because I grew up in Lincoln, I went to Goodrich Middle School and went to North Star High School," she said.

She talked to students about joining the National Guard in 2014 and her experiences.

Down the street at Fredstrom Elementary School, 82 veterans and people currently in the service had lunch with students in grades K-5.

"You can bring your Grandpa or whoever for Veterans Day," said Arynn Olsen, age 6.

"She invited me and I appreciate it, it's a good day for her," said Deroyce Volzke, an Army veteran.

They talked about why Veterans Day is important to them.

"Because they're honoring the people who serve for us," said Owen Theis, age 6.
