Lance's Journal: Nebraska By Heart Project, July 24, 2017
This spring and summer, you may have noticed bright hearts drawing attention in the Capital City.
These stunning works are part of a state-wide public art project that's been turning heads around Lincoln.
If you haven't been out to see the 'Nebraska By Heart' sculptures over the past 3 months, the time is now.
The uniquely decorated 6 foot tall, fiberglass hearts will be on display in Lincoln for the next two months.
But in early October, all of the hearts will be moved from their current locations and be auctioned off at Haymarket Park.
Liz Shea-McCoy is the director of this Nebraska By Heart project, "Nebraska By Heart is a celebration of Nebraska's 150th Anniversary, it's sesquicentennial."
Liz says, "October 5th, that's a Thursday, Haymarket Park will be opened from 11:30 to 8 for the community event, all 83 hearts will be displayed around the concourse. It's just going to be pure fun."
And then on the day after the public showing, you'll get the chance to purchase one of these one-of-a-kind hearts. On October 6th, each of the 83 hearts will be auctioned off & hopefully the hearts will be shipped out all over the state, right where they belong.
