The Color Purple has garnered a lot of attention over the past 25 years. In 1983, the Pulitzer prize winning novel was first released. Steven Spielberg made it into a movie in 1985 and a musical adaptation of the novel by Alice Walker ran on Broadway from 2005 to 2008.
Now, it's time to leave the Big Apple and take the show on the road.
The Tony award winning musical production of The Color Purple will begin it's six show run at the Lied Center starting on Wednesday, April 11th.
"It all started when it won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival on Broadway, " as the executive director of the Lied Center, Bill Stephan is thrilled that Lincoln was chosen to be the very first Nebraska venue to host The Color Purple on it's very first national tour, Then, we were so blessed to have the creator of Color Purple Steven Bray agree to come to our Grow A Show program."
Bray says, "It's a fantastic story of human resilience and forgiveness."
Expect the exterior of the Lied Center to be bathed in the color purple next week as the six show run gets underway on Wednesday night at 7:30.
