OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska Loves Public Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting public education through documentary film, will host two premiere screenings of The Mind Inside, in Omaha and Lincoln, Jan. 15 and Jan. 16, respectively.
Produced by the award-winning creators of the I Love Public Schools project, The Mind Inside explores one of the most pressing and complicated issues in public education today, mental health. In the first episode of the multi-part series, audiences learn what’s facing students and schools today and how to show empathy, support, and understanding for the students in the community.
“Whether [students] have experienced trauma in their life, whether they're experiencing peer frustrations, anxiety, depression, all of those things, as an educational institution, our number-one goal is to educate [students],” Bill Jelkin, director of student services for Millard Public Schools shares in the piece. “But, we have to have them ready to learn, and in some cases, all of those other issues are standing in the way of the education.”
The 30-minute film illustrates the heightened importance of mental health on public education – how it impacts schools, the greater community, and the students and families involved. Featured film series participants include:
Crete Public Schools
Elkhorn Public Schools
Exeter-Milligan Public Schools
