LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln man was scammed out of $75 on Friday when he paid a fake application fee for a new apartment complex, according to Lincoln Police.

Police said the 38-year-old man was living at the People's City Mission when he applied for an online loan to get an apartment and new vehicle. He was approved for the application, but had to pay a fee of $75 in Google Play gift cards.

Police said he went to Walmart to buy the gift cards and gave that card information to a man with an accent. He then realized it was a scam and couldn't pay for his cab ride home. The victim called a friend to get money for the ride home.
