Lincoln woman "catfished" out of more than $32,000

LINCOLN, Neb. – Lincoln Police said a local woman is out more than $30,000 after falling victim to an online scam.

LPD said on January 2, a 69-year-old woman reported she had been scammed out of $32,000.

The victim told police she began an online dating relationship with a man on Facebook. Police said the man called himself “Paul Gregerson” from Nigeria.

The woman told police they spoke online over the course of two years, and he convinced her to send him $10,000 in MoneyGrams.

He later convinced her he needed a double kidney transplant and requested more money.

In addition, the woman told police a person claiming to a be the scammer's friend also contacted her, saying they needed enough money so “Paul” could travel to her location and they could get married.

Total loss was $32,000.
