Man arrested after firing gunshots in downtown Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -- One person was arrested after firing multiple gunshots in downtown Lincoln early Sunday morning.

Lincoln Police said officers were canvassing the downtown area just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning when they heard multiple gunshots.

While investigating, the officers heard additional gunshots, and tracked them to the area near 14th and Q streets.

There, police saw a man looking suspicious in the Wendy's parking lot, authorities said.

LPD said when the officers gave the man verbal commands the suspect fled the scene, tossing a handgun in the process.

After a foot pursuit, officers were able to take 25-year-old Carlos Brito into custody.

Empty shell casings, an empty magazine, and a live round was found in Brito’s pocket, and 10 empty shell casings were located on the ground in the area of the original incident.

Brito was cited and lodged for discharging a weapon within city limits and failing to comply with lawful orders.
