Man found outside of burning SUV flown to Lincoln hospital, fire intentionally set

BEATRICE, Neb. (NewsChannel Nebraska) -- A man is in the CHI Health St. Elizabeth Burn Unit after he was found outside of a burning SUV in Gage County on Tuesday night.

According to the Gage County Sheriff's Office, first responders were called to the scene three miles east of Beatrice around 6:30 PM.

Deputies said the injured man was outside the vehicle when officers arrived.

The man, whose name and condition, have not been released, was conscious. The man was then flown CHI Health St. Elizabeth in Lincoln.

The Gage County Sherriff's Office said the fire was intentionally set, and the man was suicidal.

A section of South 36th Road was closed during the investigation.
