LINCOLN, Neb. – A 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after he sped away from a traffic stop and crashed into a fence.
LPD said shortly after 3 a.m., an officer saw a red 2011 GMC Arcadia traveling northbound on 17th Street without headlights.
When the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver sped up, turned on Euclid Avenue, and drove into a fence and crashed near 18th and Euclid.
Mitchell Pond, 35, tried to run from the scene but was quickly taken into custody, police said.
Pond had a suspended license and a warrant out of Douglas County, according to LPD.
He was arrested for driving during suspension and his warrant, he was cited for willful reckless driving, flee to avoid arrest, fail to signal a turn, driving without headlights at night, and vandalism.
