McCook man faces drug charges, young woman dead in Curtis

One young person is in Frontier County Jail, while another is undergoing an autopsy.

23-year old Maxwell Allen of McCook was arrested Tuesday, June 16th in Curtis. He faces several drug charges, including a felony charge for distribution of a controlled substance, allegedly cocaine, according to officials.

Allen was arrested on Tuesday after 22-year old NCTA college student and Lincoln native Jamie Spratlen was found dead at a Curtis home. The Frontier County Sheriff’s Department and rescue support arrived in response to a 911 call around 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 16th. Allen was at the Curtis residence when responders arrived.

Deputy County Attorney for Frontier County Whitney Lindstedt said she is awaiting official autopsy results for Spratlen, which can take one to four weeks. No further connection between Allen and Spratlen can be revealed until the findings of the autopsy are released.

Allen was in Frontier County Court with Judge Kent D. Turnbull on June 19 for his first appearance.

Allen will appear in Frontier County Court on July 17th for a preliminary hearing on the following drug charges:

Count 1 (Class 1D Felony): Poss w/intent-cocaine 10-27 grams

Count 2 (Class 4 Felony): Possess controlled substance

Count 3 (Class 4 Felony): Possess controlled substance

Count 4 (Class 4 Felony):Possess controlled substance

Count 5 (Class 4 Felony): Possess controlled substance

Count 6 (Class 4 Felony): Possess money while violate 28-416(1)

Count 7: Did then and there possess a controlled substance without affixing the official stamp, label, contrary to Neb. Rev. Stat. {77-4302, to wit: cocaine.

Spratlen was finishing her last year at the agriculture school, studying to be a veterinarian, according to her official obituary.
