The Waco Volunteer Fire Department said one firefighter is still in the hospital after a semi hit their ambulance carrying six first responders Saturday while they were responding to a crash on I-80.

"Of the three firefighters that were hospitalized, two of them are now recovering at home," WVFD said in a Facebook post.

The post said the firefighter is scheduled to have surgery this week and that "they are doing well but will have a long road to recovery."

WVFD said they had to take two trucks out of service because of the accident and are working with insurance on the next steps.

"This will be a long process. But, and as always- Waco will continue to provide the same professional service that our community has always had from us."
