Earlier this week a Mickle Middle School student was involved in a car versus bicycle accident. Luckily nobody was injured, but the student’s bike was ruined.

Friday, that student got a special surprise from Lincoln Police Officers and Cycle Works with a brand new way to get around.

“I was riding my bike to school and I tried to go in front of a car to go around and when I did she hit me,” said Mike Mulske, a 7th grade student at Mickle Middle School.

Officers on scene at Mike’s accident felt so bad about what happened they rallied together to get all new riding gear for Mike.

Friday he was presented with a brand new bike, helmet and bike lock.

“I really appreciate it because some schools aren’t nice like that,” said Mulske. “They won’t do stuff like that so I just think it’s really cool.”

Staff at Mickle Middle School who work with Mike say nobody is more deserving of this gift.

“Mike’s a wonderful kid,” said Officer Riley Ference, with LPD. “He really is. When staff and students found out that he had gotten in an accident everybody just felt horrible for him.”

“He just has a fantastic spirit and an amazing energy and he’s always willing to be kind to others,” said Nicki Hanseling, a 7th grade counselor at the school. “We were excited to be kind back to him.”

With the school year wrapping up Mike says this bike will give him even more freedom in the summer.

“I like the bike a lot,” said Mulske. “I like how you guys got it for me, I really appreciate that.”
