LINCOLN, Neb. -- A party featuring hundreds of intoxicated minors led to the assault of a police officer and multiple citations in Lincoln on Saturday.
Police responded to 5820 Abigale Drive shortly before midnight and found 150-200 people at the home drinking alcohol. Many of them were minors, police said.
Upon arrival, an officer contacted a shirtless 17-year-old male outside the home with alcohol containers in his hands and pockets. The 17-year-old ignored multiple verbal commands and attempted to run.
When the officer grabbed the suspect they both went to the ground, and the 17-year-old struck him in the face with his elbow multiple times.
The officer attempted to call for backup but was unable to reach his radio.
Eventually, the officer kicked the suspect away, and the minor fled the scene.
After the suspect ran, other arriving officers attempted to stop a vehicle they believed had picked up the 17-year-old.
Ignoring commands, the driver of the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a tree.
When officers approached, the vehicle accelerated once again, forcing one of the officers to jump out of the way.
The vehicle was stopped a short time later and the people inside were cited.
The person who assaulted the officer was not in the vehicle, but others at the party positively identified the suspect, and he was contacted at his house near 27th and Pine Lake Road. He was arrested for assault of a police officer.
The officer sustained injuries to his arm, right eye, mouth, and jaw.
It was determined a 17-year-old threw the party at her parent's house while they were out of town. She was cited for maintaining a disorderly house.
