Omaha firefighters deal with 'massive amounts of mud' while putting out fire

A flood-damaged and long-abandoned building near 25th and Freedom Park Road in Omaha went up in flames Sunday evening as OFD crews battled a blend of fire and heavy mud.

The incident was reported at 6:20 p.m. as a brush fire.

Crews arrived to find the old Sandpiper Cove Marina building burning. It's been vacant since the 2011 flood.

The structure had partially collapsed and firefighters found themselves knee-deep in what was described as "massive amounts of mud," as they worked to put the fire out.

OFD said all firefighters working this scene had to have their bunker gear decontaminated after the blaze.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
