YORK, Neb. (KOLN) York's 121-foot tall water tower at the intersection of I-80 and Highway 81 not only provides the town with the water resources to grow, it also draws travelers off of these major roads to visit the town.
Community creativity developed the design, and a community fundraising effort first brought the hot air balloon design to the tower in 1999, Since its inception, the York Visitors Bureau uses the water tower design on a wide array of promotional items.
Besides the public relations work, the tower holds about 750,000 gallons of water in reserve for a community that uses about that much water every day. York's other water tower, across the street from the high school, stores one million gallons of water.
